This study investigates the direct and indirect effects of sports celebrity endorsements on consumer’s purchase intentions by examining product involvement, source credibility and perceived quality as moderating variables. The results show that the direct effect of sports celebrity’s credibility on consumers’ intention to buy a low involvement product was significant, while for a high involvement product, the relationship was insignificant. Moreover, the indirect effect of sports celebrity’s credibility was also significantly higher for a national celebrity than for a global celebrity. Thus, it is suggested that future research should take product involvement into consideration when evaluating the impact of sports celebrity’s credibility on consumers’ purchase intentions.
